Who creates the first reset?
Before locking Viego, name your engage and first target. If the plan is “Viego goes first and hopes,” rethink the pick.
Your job is follow-up damage into resets. Allied CC gets you onto a killable target; a strong enemy body only matters if your team can earn it.
A draft that gives Viego a job
- Reliable engage. A teammate starts or counter-engages while you stay ready to follow.
- Damage behind the CC. The team can finish the catch, not just stun someone.
- A covered first clear. Lane prio or entrance cover protects your camps.
- A reachable first target. Their frontliner can be the reset that opens access to carries.
- Useful bodies. Enemy CC, mobility or defensive spells help chain the fight.
A draft that makes the job harder
- Heavy disengage, peel and saves deny the first kill.
- Their carries stay out of reach behind a strong front line.
- Weak lane prio lets their jungler invade for free.
- You are the only engage and front line.
- Every lane needs help and nobody can move.
Choose the fight you drafted.
Conqueror: room to keep attacking
Good baseline for extended skirmishes and front-to-back fights. Follow your engage, stack through the first target and keep hitting.
Best when you have uptime into durable targets. Conqueror does not fix bad target access.
Hail of Blades: an agreed kill window
Pick it when allied CC creates a short burst window on a reachable squishy. Fast attacks consume marks and help secure the first reset.
If the draft forces long front-line fights, that opening burst may be less useful. Choose for your team’s kill window.
Runes · patch 26.19
Select a rune to change this preview and inspect its effect. One per primary row; two from different secondary rows.
Domination
Precision
Fast opening autos. Cash in your marks before the target gets away.
Conqueror starts with Cash Back + Cosmic Insight. Boots stay available whenever your game needs them.
Pick the rune for your draft’s fight: Conqueror for uptime, HoB for a fast first kill.
Scaling health is the default defensive shard; swap to health or tenacity and slow resistance when needed.
The Conqueror page uses Cash Back + Cosmic Insight. You can buy boots when the map calls for them; adjust shards to the matchup.
Build for the fight your team creates.
Extended teamfight core
Trinity Force
Sundered Sky
Conqueror baseline for long contact. Follow the engage; buy armor or MR for the next objective fight.
Frontliner is the first reset
Kraken Slayer
Lord Dominik’s Regards
Use when armor blocks your designated target. Allied CC supplies access; your job is sustained follow-up damage.
Protected carry / pick core
Kraken Slayer
Immortal Shieldbow
No urgent pen requirement. Shieldbow keeps the catch playable; choose HoB only for a real short kill window.

Guardian Angel
Bruiser core into MR. Maw replaces Shieldbow; keep hitting while your team holds the target.

Kraken Slayer
Mercury’s Treads
Immortal Shieldbow
Lord Dominik’s Regards
Serpent’s Fang
Guardian Angel
Serpent’s Fang as fourth legendary when shields deny the team’s reset. Advance it only for an urgent shield problem.
Examples, not shopping scripts. Boots can come earlier; swap the last slots for the next fight.
One Lifeline: Shieldbow or Maw. One pen branch: LDR, Mortal Reminder or Cleaver. Use anti-heal when your team needs it.
These are coordinated-play examples, not an official pro build. Collector snowballing is not this team plan.
Plan the next 60–90 seconds.
Clear toward the team’s next play. Default to efficient camps; break the route for planned invade cover, reliable lane setup or a real punish window.
Prio means the lane can move now. Check the wave, HP and mana. Being pushed up does not always mean being able to help.
| Lane situation | Check | Response |
|---|---|---|
| Top moves first | Can top and mid cover the entrance? | Clear toward top; invade with confirmed cover. |
| Mid moves first | Which side can mid reach safely? | Use the move to secure river, cover a lane or ward together. |
| Bot moves first | Can bot leave this wave? | Clear nearby camps and sync recalls for lower river. |
| One side can move | What is available on our strong side? | Cover the weak entrance; trade toward your prio. |
| Nobody can move | Which camps or trade are safe? | Give the contest and call the alternative early. |
Protect the first clear
Assign entrance cover against invades. Keep an escape and do not fight a losing 1v2 over one camp.
Cross-map with information
Their jungler shows top: check bot-side camps, vision or an objective trade. Confirm enemy lane movement before invading.
Clear toward the team’s next play
Finish camps and reset early enough to arrive with HP, items and wards. Do not start an opposite-side camp as your team moves to river.
If the objective is already lost, keep farming or trade. The 60–90 seconds is a planning window, not a clear timer.
Give information someone can act on.
Keep calls short. Agree who calls turn or finish before half the team hits the pit and half fights.
| Information | Example call | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Enemy jungler | “Jungle top. Bot side is open if mid moves.” | Turn the sighting into a play. |
| Lane movement | “Bot cannot move. Wait one wave.” | Avoid an unsupported river fight. |
| Flash / ultimates | “Carry no Flash. Our engage R is up.” | Call the catch window. |
| Smite | “No Smite. Do not flip the finish.” | Change the objective call. |
| First target | “Hit their jungle on entry. I follow CC.” | Focus the first reset. |
| Possession value | “Support body gives CC. I hold the next one.” | Tell the team what the reset adds. |
| Turn / finish | “Stop damage, turn,” or “Finish; zone jungle.” | Keep everyone on one call. |
| Reset access | “Cannot reach the body. Back out.” | Avoid chasing an unsafe soul. |
| Vision | “Cover left entrance and check flank.” | Assign the vision job. |
Track confirmed Flash and R timers. Say “not sure” when information is uncertain instead of turning a guess into the team’s plan.
The monster is not always the target.
Viego loves enemies walking into your team’s vision and CC. Set waves and entrances first; starting Dragon does not create control by itself.
Start
Check prio, enemy jungle, HP and Smite. Cover entrances and leave room to move; do not stack everyone in the pit.
Threaten
Make them walk in without committing to the finish. Track objective HP so the bait does not become a steal flip.
Turn
Stop pit damage together and hit the enemy entering your choke. Follow allied CC; splitting damage often loses both targets.
Force a facecheck
Sweep with cover, hold the angle and let allied CC catch the first entry. Do not chase out of controlled vision.
Cross-map / trade
They own one side: take a confirmed objective, camps, tower or wave elsewhere. Call it before teammates arrive late.
Give
No entrance and no safe trade? Preserve HP, farm and positions. Do not donate kills with the objective.
Arrive without donating the first death.
- Control Wards: put them where the team can defend or use them. Do not repeatedly donate wards in their river.
- Oracle Lens: sweep with teammates. Clearing a ward does not make the next bush safe.
- W from fog: charge from a covered angle and follow allied CC. Keep the missile path clear; another unit can block it.
- E with a purpose: mist helps movement and fighting around terrain, but shows pressure. Do not reveal the trap too early.
- Camouflage is not invisibility: respect proximity and detection. E during W does not guarantee a hidden charge.
- Dragon / Baron entrances: cover them early. Let safer scouting tools lead instead of facechecking with Viego.
Play near allied CC. A flashy flank is useless if the team cannot follow your first target.
Enter behind the plan.
You want the first enemy death, not necessarily first engage. Stay close enough to follow without eating the opening CC.
- Pick the first-reset target. Choose who the team can kill now. A reachable frontliner can open the fight.
- Track the stop buttons. Wait out key CC, displacement and saves, then follow. Do not wait so far back that your engage dies alone.
- Weave attacks. Consume Q and W marks with AA. Mark before R when the window allows; keep R for the finish or reposition.
- Check the body and landing. Useful CC, mobility, defense or burst only matters if the soul is safe to reach.
- Use the good spells, then reassess. Stay while the kit helps. R out when the form loses access, exposes you or delays the next reset.
Possession makes the transition untargetable, not immune to all damage. Plan where you land; enemies can hold CC for the transition’s end.
A new body has an initial R lockout. Use its basic tools while you wait. You keep summoners, but do not borrow its ultimate or usable item actives. R cannot be cast while rooted; it is not a guaranteed escape from every disable.
The possession guide covers the shared mechanics. In comms, call the borrowed tool your team can follow.
Buy for your assigned fight.
Front-to-back
Conqueror fits repeated contact. Trinity Force → Sundered Sky is the bruiser core: weave abilities and AA, then stay in the fight.
For the Kraken damage route, buy Immortal Shieldbow when you do not need immediate pen. Go Lord Dominik’s Regards second when armor already blocks the first kill.
Pick / burst
Hail of Blades fits a caught squishy who needs to die during allied CC. Voltaic Cyclosword is a short-contact option into low armor.
Reassess when enemies group behind a tank. The pick build still needs a real target and safe access.
Durable / bruiser alternatives
Trinity Force → Sundered Sky gives a clear bruiser path. Patch 26.18 improved AD growth and possession healing’s bonus-HP scaling alongside bonus AD, AP and attack speed. Durability helps you reach a reset; it does not make you the main engage.
| Enemy problem | Team adjustment | Purchase / rune question |
|---|---|---|
| Tanks / armor | Focus the reachable target. | Kraken → Lord Dominik’s Regards for needed pen; Conqueror when you have uptime. |
| Assassins / burst | Stay connected and follow after their burst. | Can Shieldbow or the right resistance keep me alive for the reset? |
| Heavy CC | Track their key CC and ask for cover. | Mercury’s Treads for reducible CC; they do not answer every disable. |
| Disengage / peel | Catch from fog or punish a used save. | Target access first. More damage does not fix being unable to hit. |
| Squishy / low-mobility carries | Call the first catch. | HoB for the burst window; spend for the target you can reach. |
| Mostly physical damage | Respect their AA and burst pattern. | Plated Steelcaps or a relevant armor purchase. |
| Mostly magic damage | Avoid the opening spell burst. | Buy needed MR before the next fight; do not stack conflicting Lifeline items. |
Use the Team Play builds above for your draft. The Solo/Duo builds cover personal carry and snowball decisions.
Use the lead without giving it back.
Invade with prio, deny camps and ward the entrances you can hold. Force predictable enemy routes toward your team’s CC.
Sync pushes and resets before taking river. If they give the objective, take it; do not chase a kill into unwarded space.
Keep shutdown gold behind your engage. A lead gives control, not permission to facecheck five.
Keep a route back into the fight.
Stop forcing river without prio or vision. Trade sides, collect safe camps and cover your carries.
Keep farm so your own form still deals damage. Wait for overextension, allied CC or a spent defensive cooldown.
One enemy mistake can start the reset chain. If there is no first kill, give space instead of flipping another losing objective.
Answer these before committing.
- Enemy jungle location: confirmed or guessed?
- Which lanes have prio after this wave?
- Which Rs, Flashes and saves are up?
- Smite ready? Who zones their jungler?
- Who engages? Where do I enter second?
- Who is the first target?
- Which safe body adds useful CC or damage?
- Turn or finish? Who calls it?
- Who covers entrances and flank vision?
- If setup fails, where do we back out or trade?
